6 Suggestions for Starting a Juice Company in 2023

Updated: May 15, 2023

Starting a juice business appears to be rather simple.

You produce juice and sell it.

Simple money.

Well, there are a few details to work out before everything is up and running. After dealing with hundreds of new juice companies, I've prepared a brief list of recommendations and tools to help you avoid many typical problems.

1. Understand Your Local Health Laws Regarding Raw Juice.

The regulations regarding raw juice differ widely by area.

In the Philippine law,, for example, the FDA stipulates that raw juice can be sold directly to consumers via retail or delivery, but not wholesale to third parties who would resale it. If you wish to sell wholesale, you need to process the juice by either heat pasteurization or HPP.

There is some disagreement about whether HPP juice is "raw," but in my opinion, it very definitely is not. The only individuals I've ever encountered that claim it's raw are companies who either utilize or produce HPP equipment. And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with HPP juice; it's simply not raw and may have been created weeks ago rather than today or yesterday.

Pro tip: There is no rule or regulation requiring juice producers to tell you whether their juice has been processed with HPP or pasteurization. If you like raw juice, buy it from a reputable source, such as your local juice bar!

2. Determine which business model you will employ.

A juice business has four basic business models:

1. Delivery only, accepting orders online

2. Brick & mortar/juice bar selling directly to customers

3. Wholesale distribution to supermarket stores

4. Combination

Each company model has its merits and cons. Determine the type of business you want to establish and gather the necessary cash. Regardless of which business model you choose, it is critical to choose so that you know where to focus your efforts.

Many companies started their juice business from home in 2022. With current technologies like delivery apps and website builders like Shopify, starting a small home business is easier than ever.

Start with delivery or a juice bar, but eventually offer the consumer multiple ways to purchase your product, also known as an omni-channel business.

3. Get the Right Tools

Prepare yourself for success.

Invest in the best juice bar equipments for your company. It is critical to utilize a

commercial cold press juicer rather than a mechanical or crushing juicer. Many companies market their products when there is no press element at all. To discover more, read about the many varieties of juicers.

It may be tempting to avoid spending money by purchasing something less expensive, but keep in mind that the juicer is the foundation of your business and its success is dependent on it. It is the most important decision you will ever make.

4. Have a Professional on Your Team

If you're entering the juice market for the first time, be certain that you have a specialist on your team. A specialist can be someone who has operated a business similar to yours. It's fine if it isn't quite juice. You may hire a good restaurant/food and beverage supervisor if you're opening a juice bar. Find someone with experience operating a juice or other wholesale beverage business if you're beginning a wholesale juice business.

If you don't have somebody on your team, you should at least have a regular advisor, whether it's a friend, an investor, or a consultant.

5. Understand your numbers

It may be tempting to put every superfood known to humankind into every bottle, but unless you reside in a location where individuals will pay enough money per bottle, this is not a sustainable business model.

The total expenditure of the ingredients used in each bottle should not exceed 25%-30% of the final product price. For additional details, see my article on evaluating cold pressed juice food costs.

In order to keep your costs in line with your sales, you have to control the expenses associated with labor, packaging prices, and overhead. You must either know these figures yourself or have somebody on your team who can keep track of them and provide you with simple reports.

6. Keep Your Menu Basic

Begin with a basic menu and work your way up. I suggest beginning with a maximum of than six juice recipes. After a while of selling juice, discontinue the lowest sellers and explore with other formulas.
